Dona was the last surviving child of Leland and Viola Short from Orleans. Her grandparents were Harry and Katherine Ferris from Orleans. Dona was the younger sister of Ora Smith, Gene Short, Queenie Mertle, and Lorraine Taylor. She was a upriver and downriver Native and a member of the Yurok Tribe.

Susie McKelvey October 5, 1950-May 7, 2017Always known for her smile and caring disposition, Susie was well-known as a great cook, little league mom, terrible softball player, fork-lift driver, informal counselor (talker,) river lounger, and friend to all. Any family member, friend, organization, or club could count on Susie’s help and she would be there for them… likely 15-20 minutes late. Susie’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, reading romance novels, cooking, socializing, volunteering, and watching the grandkids.

Martin was a World War II Veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. He moved to Hoopa in 1953, where he and his wife, Mary, resided until 1975. Martin owned and operated a log truck; working as an independent trucker for years before becoming employed with the Bill Wold Logging Company. His log-hauling years were spent traveling the mountains and back roads of the Hoopa Reservation and surrounding areas. Upon leaving Hoopa in 1975, he left behind many friends and acquaintances throughout the Community.

Karrie was born to the late Alfred “Carlson” and Carmen Kane of Hoopa, CA on March 7, 1960. She was also a member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe.

Jimmy grew up in the Hoopa Valley and was proud to be a Hoopa Tribal member. He attended Hoopa High School and played football and baseball. He graduated from Hoopa High 1983. He lived almost his entire life in Hoopa except for a time he spent in Washington.

Candi Dee Colegrove-TracyCandi Dee Colegrove-Tracy, born November 2, 1961, passed away May 3, 2019 at her home in Hoopa, CA surrounded by family and friends. Candi was born in Hoopa and was a proud member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe. She attended school at Fredrick & Charles and was a beautician by trade. Worked at Child Development, Hoopa Health Association, and attended College of the Redwoods. She loved watching the Food Network, keeping her nails pristine, and visiting with family and friends. She had a superb sense of style, smelt like a million bucks, and was always cuddled up with a big fluffy blanket. She was known as an outstanding cook, especially when it came to her lasagna and spaghetti. Candi looked forward to attending her Tribe’s traditional dances every year and making regalia.

He was a graduate of Hoopa High and still remained close to many of his child hood friends. Isaac was also employed at the Hoopa Mini Mart for many years and once again became friends with so many as he enjoyed talking to everyone that came in.

Mary Doo 2Mary Beth Baldy Doolittle was born September 17, 1955 to the late Newton Sr. and Nancy Gardner Baldy. She passed away peacefully at home after a long battle of health issues and with her husband and family by her side on October 18, 2020. Mary was born in Hoopa, CA and lived her entire life on the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation, where she was a proud Hoopa Tribal Member. She worked many years in the Child Care Program for the Tribe. She also loved to play Bingo and enjoyed spending time playing cards and dice with her family. Her greatest moments were spending time with her grandchildren and the many travels on the road with her husband.

27-51 Obit (Ferris)Zona Trella Ferris was born into the arms of her loving parents Dave Drake, Sr., and Lonnie Snapp-Drake on August 31, 1924. She was a Karuk Tribal Member born to the Village of Panamnik. Her mother Lonnie delivered her and her twin sister, who passed the day after birth. Zona was the oldest of eight. She was raised with her six sisters and one brother at the Drake homestead on the Salmon River. She attended Elementary School at Somes Bar and waited two years before circumstances allowed her family to send her to high school in Etna. The opportunity to attend high school at the time was no easy feat.

Henry Boyd is proceeded in death by his great-grandparents, Ned and Lousia Jackson; grandparents, Eugene Colegrove Sr. and Charlotte Jackson-Colegrove of Hoopa and Meyburn and Carol McCullough of Mississippi; his father Henry Lee McCullough; his brothers, Leonard and William McCullough; his sister Darla Lee McCullough; and his neice Lottie Nez.
